The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) invites visitors to explore, discover, and celebrate the great outdoors at the Museum's annual signature event, "NatureFEST!" on April 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. This iconic event returns for another action‑packed day of hands‑on fun at the Museum located in LeFleur's Bluff State Park.

A festival, nature outing, and a museum visit all rolled into one, "NatureFEST!" offers something for every age and interest. Guests can enjoy live animal encounters, behind‑the‑scenes experiences with Museum scientists, engaging demonstrations, and a wide variety of outdoor activities.
"NatureFEST is one of our favorite days of the year," said Museum Director Angel Rohnke. "It is an incredible opportunity for families to connect with Mississippi's natural world in fun, memorable ways and to see firsthand how science, conservation, and discovery all come together here at the Museum."

Throughout the day, visitors can meet fascinating animals presented by Wild Acres, Freedom Ranch, and the Hattiesburg Zoo, explore aquariums during fish feedings, travel back in time at the "Giants of the Ice Age" exhibit, and take part in interactive programs designed to inspire future scientists and nature lovers - like seeing artist Ellen Langford paint and meeting Kay Meadows, local author of "It's Buggy in Mississippi".

"NatureFEST!" also includes opportunities to shop plants from Camp Creek Native Plants and other items from local vendors, enjoy Skenny Burgers, Gator's, and Mo'Betta Desserts food trucks (not included), and relax while soaking up the festive atmosphere. The event is designed to encourage exploration both inside the Museum and throughout the Museum's beautiful outdoor spaces and trails.
COST: The event is included with regular Museum admission or Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation Membership (excluding vendors and food trucks), making it an accessible and exciting way for families to spend the day together while learning more about Mississippi's rich natural heritage.
Kick-off the day with the Buffalo Peak Outfitters Hoka 5K Hike/Run (includes NatureFEST admission) - registration required. Get NatureFEST and hike information at: https://www.mdwfp.com/events/naturefest-0.
