Mississippi Farmers Market to Host Native Plant Fest April 11

In honor of Native Plant Month, the Mississippi Farmers Market will host its Native Plant Fest event on Saturday, April 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“April is Native Plant Month, and we are excited to celebrate our great state’s beautiful and diverse collection of native plants,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson. “We encourage everyone to come out to the Mississippi Farmers Market this Saturday to learn more about the vital role native plants play in supporting the environment, pollinators and local agriculture, while also enjoying a great, family-friendly event.”
In addition to the usual vendors, shoppers will be treated to live music from Vincent Venturini; an informational booth by the Garden Club of Jackson; and wildflower seed packets from Keep Mississippi Beautiful and complimentary popcorn, while supplies last.
Felder Rushing, Mississippi gardening legend and horticulturist, will be providing practical demonstrations on site with his famous garden truck. Rushing, former president of the Mississippi Native Plant Society and author of over 30 garden-related books, is currently the host of Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s “The Gestalt Gardener” radio program and podcast.
This unique event will also shine a spotlight on the Mississippi Farmers Market’s local honey and plant vendors, including several offering native plants for purchase. Yazoo Honey & Bee Farm, a Genuine MS® member and local honey producer, will also be on hand to provide educational lessons on the benefits of bees, as well as samples of their honey products.The City Limits Café, located inside the Mississippi Farmers Market, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every weekday and 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday. The Genuine MS® Store, also located inside the Mississippi Farmers Market, is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday.The Mississippi Farmers Market, a division of the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, is open from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday.
